SuperDaniel
Two minutes on Halloween...
Chicago is The Third Coast. It's the home of some 3M people, of all nations, shapes and colors. It's also our home. Read all about it!
Halloween! it took us forever to get ready this morning: dress-tights-hair-shoes, find the crown in the bottom of a toy box (thanks, safta!), last-minute hemming of the dress so that little feet don't stumble on it all day, and off we go to school!
I was surprised to see a range of costumes at school. Not every girl was a princess -- there were two bumblebees in class, at least one witch, two princesses, a police oficer, a superman, a spiderman and a batman. if they take a group picture today i'll upload it here. Poor Daniel was going to be a superman but instead he stayed home with Safta Dalia. I guess for Halloween he's going to be "under the weather"... (really, it's probably just teething, but he had low fever and was very cranky so we decided he'll get a home day instead). We'll see if he perks up for trick-or-treating, if not he can stay at home and give out candy.Posted by keren at 9:49 AM 0 comments
finally had my chance to plant my bulbs. the ground was damp from all the rain and easy to dig, and the sun was out, making it a perfect day to work in your garden. Ben was back from the wedding, Daniel was taking a nap, and Ella was busy watching a movie. I dug up the front garden and got ready to plant the bulbs that have been waiting for that moment for a few weeks now, only to discover that... they're all moldy and partly rotten! ach! what a disappointment. so i went out and bought a bunch of new ones (marked down by 60%! hooray!) and finally put them in the ground. now we have to sit back and wait for spring to see how that worked out. should be a pretty mix of white and purple. :)
Ella came out and helped me. The chicken wire is to prevent the squirrels from digging up the bulbs. I also left out a couple of bowls full of pumpkin guts for the squirrels to munch on.Posted by keren at 2:43 PM 0 comments
we celebrated Daniel's birthday a few days early, with a cake, balloons, and presents.
many of you would recall that it's not the first trucker cake i've made... :) good times! this one was much smaller but just as good. there are some birthday picturesDaniel's first birthday |

Safta Dalia and Saba Odi "sent" us this wagon for Daniel's birthday! Daniel was so excited to try it out that he climbed right in before the thing was even put together. he had the half-built wagon flip over in no time, trying to break the kitchen floor and gain some street-cred in the form of a black eye for his first birthday, but with no luck! both the baby and the floor survived. The wagon has been thoroughly tested around the block with Daniel, Ella and Mina taking turn riding and pulling. hooray! and thanks, safta and saba!
i'm ready! look, i fit!Posted by keren at 4:55 PM 1 comments
We went back to JCC one evening after school, to give one of Daniel's teachers her belated farewell present. Outside of the building, there were a few Sukkot, leftover from a Sukkah Arbor competition. the kids enjoyed walking in to and out of them to try them out.

Tuesday is our swim class night at Goldfish, followed by date night with the Steins: Asher, who used to be Ella's classmate at JCC; Lilah, his sister; and Ari and Adam. Their parents. For date night we go to Wolverine State, where you can bring your own pizza and ice cream (for the kids), salad and guacamole (for us), drink the local beer, and listen to live music. The kids really like Lindsey Lou, and the band seem to like the kids who sometimes dance to the music.
don't worry, by 9 pm we're out of there (it's bedtime...).
