smoke, yuck!

i probably got used to non-smoking establishments that actually enforce the non-smoking regulation. otherwise, it would be hard to admit that the reason i suffered so much last night at a (relatively ventilated) smoky TA bar is that i'm getting old.

no title

ben called me a while ago and told me about leaving the scroogim at the neighbors' place. he said they seemed confused and not sure what to do.. i'm sad for ben, it must have been a lonely night at 13E... i'm also kinda glad that the scroogim have a preference to be with us, and don't naturally feel at home with someone else... i miss them, especially cause i won't see them in the next 3 weeks. i think i compensate by giving extra attention to old Malakas, my parents' 18-year-old cat. i sit with him when he eats (i figured which flavour of canned food he likes best), and hopefully he will gain some weight. maybe he needs a bath, too.

anyway, ben left the scroogim with todd and hiro, along with all their stuff, and tonight he's driving over to his parents, and leaving for israel the next day.
it's crazy. can't waitt to pick everybody up at the airport!!!

i'll be writing mostly at the family blog, for the next 3 weeks or so, so keep updated there...

p.s. i got stung by a bee today. it hurts. i hate bugs.

things happen

it looks like nothing happened here in the last week (since i finished reading HP).. but most of it is actually happening on the trans atlantic family blog. everybody's so excited about going to israel, and that makes me happy. can't wait to have everybody there! we have an issue with megan's passport (can't believe it's taking them so long to produce one! it took them less time to give me a green card!!!), hopefully that will be solved and they will get it on time.
my parents and brothers and pretty much everybody are working hard for the wedding, and safta actually said to me that this is going to be the "wedding of the year" in ganey yehuda.
we got all the addresses and the invitations will be sent shortly.

i still need to pack... including packing my wedding dress, that will probably take an entire suitcase... and probably need to buy another suitcase, as mine sort of died on the trip to hawaii (it still works, only the handles are now all broken)(sure aba can fix it, hehe)

speaking of things destroyed, gray scrooge killed my shoe lace (of my brand new running shoes). he chewed it all the way in two places before ben noticed what he was doing. i smacked him on the head and yelled at him, and then didn't speak with him the rest of the morning. i think he knew he was being punished, he didn't even come begging for food as he usually does (the fatso asks for food even 2 minutes after he's finished breakfast, while still licking his paws. what a pig). this cat definitely knows where the boundaries are. he just enjoys pushing them from time to time, see if he can get away with it. [sigh...] teenagers.

i can't be trusted with books

when i was eight, i used to go with my mom or dad to the public library. it was an old wooden house, with squeaky wooden floors, with silence so thick you can almost taste. i would spend long time beneath the shelves, going through book covers, reading descriptions on their backs.. then go to the librarian's desk, and borrow as many books as she would let me. kids were normally allowed to take home two or three books at a time, but i usually got away with four, five, six... i would start reading the first book in the car on the way home, and, not being able to let it go, sit in the parked car and keep reading till it was too dark to see the letters. i stayed up reading in bed for hours and hours, ima or aba sticking their heads in the doorway every once in a while to check if i already fell asleep, which i did, eventually, at two in the morning, only when the book came to an end.

blame it on the moon??

Austrian scientists have just proved that "The full moon does not unfavorably affect the likelihood of an accident"
(read the article here, in English / Hebrew).
i might be in a minority here, but i think i can find some reasons for the full moon to be of influence.

  • "honey, look at the moon! it's so beautiful tonight!!" [eeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrr $%*@$$&&@$@ !!!CRASH!!!]
  • "nah, it's a full moon today, don't need a flash light. i'll just go pee behind that bush by end of the cliff" [ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh SPLAT]
  • "you think it'll be easier to see our burglary victims tonight?"
  • Felix Felicis

did someone slip Felix Felicis in my coffee? feels like yesterday was a lucky day. everything seemed to be working unnaturally in our favor.

giving the rent check to Stella (our landlord) we reminded her that we wanted to move to a bigger apartment, and she admitted that there might be one available for september. it's a large one-bedroom apartment on the 9th floor, with view to the lake, a huge living room, an enormous bedroom, 1.5 times counter space in the kitchen, it's awesome. 850 sq. feet vs. our 500 sq. feet... we can get a dining table, AND put the dresser in the bedroom. yeyy!!!

we then called a cat-sitter and she offered to board the scroogim for the entire time we'll be gone, for an affordable price (the same price we use to pay the lady in the building or doru the maintenance guy to come over and feed them every day when we usually travel!) - which is almost 3 times lower than her usual fee.

finally, while dinner (corn pown and salad) was in the oven (well, not the salad, duh), i let the scroogim out to run about and play in the hall (they like sniffing neighbors' doors - but i watch over them, so that they don't wonder off into the elevator and disappear). we met our neighbors from down the hall, a very cute couple (hero and todd(?))(yes, they are both guys), who immediately fell in love with gray and black, and were thrilled to take care of them while we're gone. so from no scroogim solution, to two reasonable options, all in one day!
we're having dinner with the neighbors tonight, see how that goes. it's nice to finally know someone in the building besides the employees...

and to top it all, no tub poop!! (maybe because we kept the bathroom door closed... hmm)
