Haiti update

We just got a message from Coffy, Ella's teacher. He left on a flight to Santo Domingo (in the Dominican Republic, on the same island as Haiti) and he's trying to reach Port au Prince by buss. We all keep our fingers crossed that he finds his parents and five brothers.

They are going to raise funds to help the people with needed supplies etc. -- we'll keep you updated.

an ad that Coffy published in order to find the location of his parents. (No responses yet).

a newspaper article from the tribune. Yakini and Coffy were featured briefly, and the experience that helped him make the decision to go to Haiti. (last 3 paragraphs)

Coffy is a top-notch, incredibly talented and compassionate guy. I could rant and rave all day about how much we think of him and Yakini. Bottom line is that we admire him and his family a lot, so it's especially painful to watch them suffer.

The airport at Port au Prince, Haiti is backed up and damaged, which is one of the things that hampers the relief effort. Apparently booking a flight to Port au Prince next to impossible.

Coffy thought he might be able to get special consideration by joining an American relief team as a translator; he speaks English, Spanish, French, and Hatian Creole fluently. Instead, he's flying into Santo Domingo and riding a bus a few hours across the Dominican Republic-Haiti border, keeping his fingers crossed that he won't run into problems with Haitian immigration.

We can only hope for the best. I think I'll put my money where my mouth is tomorrow.

Can't imagine the terror of that phone call. What organizations are best for making donations? There are so many out there and you wonde which get the most help there the fastest.

איזה סיוט. אני לא מפסיקה לחשוב עליהם. זה ממש נורא -תחושת חוסר האונים הזו. אני מתפללת עבור קופי ומשפחתו.
