Zoo

great weekend with Erin, Mina, Grandma and Grandpa visiting us. Kevin and Megan joined us all on a trip to the Toledo zoo. I only have a few non-representative pictures, as Ella and I ended up wandering off doing our own thing while the rest of them somehow managed to visit every animal in the zoo... I had a lot of fun in the aquarium house, when Ella asked for the names of all the different sea creatures, and asked why they were named that ("it has whiskers like a cat, so they call it catfish" or "it's called starfish because it looks like a star")

Roller derby

We went to watch my friend Jillian's roller derby team practice. Ella had lots of questions. She wanted to know what they were doing, and why they want to be in the front (basically, tried to understand the rules of the game). and also, why do they keep falling. i'm just glad for the opportunity to expose her to sports, and to women's sports in particular. something about breaking out of the traditional boy-girl roles: girls don't have to be princesses to be awesome; and high-speed, energetic and forceful contact sport isn't just for boys.
